Reasons for Decline of Islamic Libraries
In this article, initially the greatness and importance of big libraries in the Islamic world have been discussed. Then, the factors responsible for the ruin and destruction of libraries in the Islamic world have been mentioned. The author has divided these factors into two categories, external and internal. The external fators include the crusades against Islamic countries, the destruction of Islamic culture by Spanish christians, and the Mongol invasion and the ensuing savagery. Libraries which were destroyed in these wars and invasions have been named.
After this the internal factors have been discussed and the author has drawn attention towards credal disputes, attacks by other communities on Islamic countries, and the inadequacy of some dynasties. On the whole, throughout the article a lot of useful information has been provided about a large number of libraries.
A Forgotten Art of Arabic and Persian Rhetoric
At the beginning the author a lludes to the Quranic influence on the spread of rhetoric. Subsequently he mentions some of the arts of rhetoric. Later the art of speaking and writing poetry and prose without using an alphabet having a diacritical point (nuqtah) has been discussed and the history of its development has been provided. The sermon of Ali (A) and examples from other writers have been quoted. Some poems without diacritical points have also been cited.
A Scrutiny of the Translation of al-Hayaat
The author initially speaks about the importance of translation in general. Then the necessity of translation of religious texts and compilations of hadith along with its importance and sensitiveness have been highlighted. Later the qualities of a translator, which include command over both the languages, a knowledge of the subject being translated, having a literary taste and a penchant for translation have been mentioned
Further the mistakes and shortcomings of famous translations and translators have been listed and the accuracy of the translation of al-Hayaat has been alluded to. At the end some mistakes in the translation of al-Hayaat have been pointed out.
Astronomy: A Forgotten Science
In the beginning of the article, the science of astronomy, its subject - matter and its brief history have been discussed. Later the fundamentals, intracacies and uses of this branch of science have been listed. Some instances where religious sciences require the help of this science have been mentioned. At the end of the article the book Durus-e- Haiat wa Digar Rishtahaye Riyazi of Ustad Hasanzadeh Amili has been reviewed and the contents of the book and its original sources have been introduced. The present article gives useful information about astronomy to the reader.
The Study of Burhan-e- Nazm in the lectures on Avicenna's al-Shifa
In this article after explaning the burhan-e- nazm and emphasising its importance, the view of Ustad Mutahhari regarding this proof has been mentioned. The criticism by some philosophirs, including David Hume, of this proof and the replies to these criticisms find mention. At the end the issue of whether this proof is experimental or not is discussed and the possibility of chance being the reason for coherence is studied.
The Comprehensive Commentary of Manzumah and Comparitive Philosophy
The present article is a detailed review of Sharh-e- Mabsut-e- Manzumah of Ustad Murtaza Mutahhari. The reviewer, by giving numerous excerpts from the book, tries to explain the methodology of Ustad Mutahhari which includes illustrating a point by providing examples, giving a brief history of each issue, .... The third part of this article will occur in the next issue.
University of Ayn al-Shams, Egypt
The present article introduces the University of Ayn al-Shams, Egypt. The date of its establishment, the colleges affiliated to it, the history of how it got its name, and the chancellors of the university from its inception to the present have been mentioned.
Manuscripts at Madrasa-e- Alawi, Khunsar
In this article tens of manuscripts at the Madrasa-e- Alawi of the city of Khunsar have been listed. Each manuscript has been introduced by giving the name of its author, the name of its scribe, type of script, number of pages and lines, its initial and concluding parts, and other such details.
Books Written and Published Recently
Under this heading three articles occur:
١. Summary Introductions: This article briefly introduces some research books which have been recently published. Some of these books are, the translation of al-Futuh of Ibn Aasam al-Kufi, Farhang nameh-e- Qurani, a collection of the complete works of Abd al-Rahman Salmi, Wasilat al-Khadim ila al-makhdum, etc.
٢. Introductory Reports: Under this title a very brief introduction of tens of books published recently has been provided under a subject - wise classification.
٣. Research and Cultural Magazines: Under this heading the contents of newly published research and cultural magazines have been mentioned.

مرآة التّحقيق
اسباب افول المكتبات الاسلامية
تتناول المقالة بادئ ذي بدء, أهمية و عظمة أمهات المكتبات في العالم الاسلامي. ثم تتطرق الى سرد اسباب دمار و محو المكتبات في العالم الاسلامي. و يقسّم صاحب المقال الاسباب الكامنة وراء الافول في عنصرين احدهما خارجي و الاخر داخلي.
ففي الاول أشار صاحب المقال الي§ الحروب الصليبية المدمرة, و المسيحيين في اسپانيا, المغول و ممارساتهم الوحشية. ثم تناول المكتبات التي طالها الدمار في هذه الازمات.
بعدها تناول العامل الداخلي, فأشار الى اثارة النعرات الطائفيه و المذهبية اولاً, ثم مهاجمة اصفاع المسلمين من قبل الامم و الشعوب المجاورة ثانياً, و عدم كفاء الحكومات ثالثاً.
هذا و قد قدمت المقالة في مجموعها معلومات قيّمة عن المكتبات.
فنن منسيّة في البلاغة العربية و الفارسية
يشير الكاتب في بداية المقال الي§ الاثار التي تركها القرآن علي§ صعيد اتساع رقعة فنون البلاغة. ثم يعني§ الي§ عديد عدد من فنون البلاغة, و يسترسل فيطرق باب المحادثة الخالية من النقاط, فكتابة الشعر و إلقاءه باعتبره واحداً فى فنون البلاغة المهمة. ثم يعرّج علي§ سرد تأريخى لهذا الامر. بعدها يورد خطبة للأمام علي ـ ع ـ و نماذج من آثار شخصيات اخري§ و بعضاً من المقطوعات الخالية من النقاط.
وقفة عند ترجمة الحياة
يبحث الكاتب في بداية مقاله في الترجمة و أهميتها. ثم يعطف الانظار الي§ ضرورة ترجمة نصوص الدين و الحديث و بيان اهمية و حساسية الامر. بعدها يعني§ بالتفصيل الي§ الحديث عن كفاءة المترجم و مدي§ تبحره و إلمامه في اللغة المنقول منها و إليها, و كذا المامه في الموضوع المطروح للترجمة, و شاعرية المترجم و سلاسة طبعه, و رغبته في العمل, باعتبارها من الاولويات الضرورية لكل مترجم ناجح.
و يستطرد الكاتب, فيشير الى عدد فى الاخطاء و الاشكالات الواردة في كبريات اعمال الترجمه و مشاهير المترجمين. ثم يعود ادراجه و يتحدث عن سلامة و تقنية ترجمة الحياة العالية. و يختم مقاله بايراد عدد من المواضع النادرة في ترجمة هذا الكتاب.
علم الهيئة, ذلك العلم المنسي
تبدأ المقاله بالحديث عن علم الهيئة و موضوعاته و تاريخه. بعدها تتناول مقدمات و ابداعات و فوائد هذا العلم. ثم يعدد مواطن رجوع العلوم الدينية الي§ علم الهيئة. في الختام يشير صاحب المقال الي§ كتاب دروس الهيئة و فروع الرياضات لمؤلفه الاستاذ حسن زاده الآملي, و يخوض في محتوي§ الكتاب و كيفية اعداده. هذا و تقدم المقالة معلومات قيّمة حول علم الهيئة.
تقييم برهان النظم في دروس الشفاء لإبن سينا
تتطرق المقالة الي§ بيان برهان النظم و أهميته, و تستعرض رأي الاستاذ الشهيد مرتضي§ المطهري في هذا المجال. ثم تعني§ الي§ تثبيت اشكاليات عدد من الفلاسفة, و منهم ديويد هيوم, حول هذا البرهان و ترد عليها, و تختم المقالة بحثها بالحديث عن تثبيت البرهان او عدمه و احتمال المصادفة في النظم.
شرح المنظومة و الفلسفة التطبيقية
تخوض المقالة بشيء فى التفصيل في كتاب شرح مبسوط منظومه للاستاذ الشهيد مرتضي§ المطهرى, و تُعني§ ببيان ابعاد و فحوي§ الكتاب بدقة. ثم يورد كاتب المقال شواهد مختلفة من نص الكتاب في إشارة منه الي§ اساليب الاستاذ المطهري في سرد المباحث الفلسفية (عبر ذكر الامثلة المختلفة, الالتفات الى السير التأريخى لكل مبحث و…) هذا و سنتطرق الي§ القسم الثالث من هذه المقاله في العدد القادم من المجلة; ان شاءالله.
